Twenty-seven-year-old screenwriter Elle has the chance of a lifetime to write a big-budget movie set in New York City. The only problem? She’s had writer’s block for months, and her screenplay is due at the end of the summer.
In a desperate attempt at inspiration, Elle ends up back in the city she swore she would never return to, in an apartment she could never afford (floor-to-ceiling windows, skyline views, and a new coffee shop to haunt included). It’s the perfect place to write her screenplay…until she realizes her new neighbor is tech “Billionaire Bachelor” Parker Warren, her stairwell hookup from two years ago. When seeing him again turns into a full night of hate-fueled writing, Elle realizes her enemy/twisted muse might just be the key to finishing her screenplay… if she can stand being around her polar opposite. She writes anonymously, and he’s on the cover of every business magazine. He frequents fancy red carpeted events, and she doesn’t like leaving her emotional support five block radius.
One summer. One wall apart. He needs to fake a buzzy relationship during his company’s precarious acquisition. She needs to write a movie around a list of NYC locations. For once, we’re being spoilt for choice with stunning special editions and sprayed edge versions of Summer in the City. It’s crazy just how many different versions of this book there are going to be, and I think it’s a testament to Alex Aster’s popularity just how many retailers have jumped to have a special edition of Summer in the City. Each version has the exact same content when it comes to the story however, the dust jacket, edges, maps and the design of the book under the dustjacket all vary slightly.
Two special editions are exclusive to the UK, there’s a first print run deluxe edition for the UK and the US and three special editions exclusive to the US.
Waterstones Exclusive of Summer in the City (UK)
Waterstones has become one of the best places in the UK to get special editions or sprayed edge books so it’s hardly surprising that you can get an exclusive edition of Summer in the City here.
This special edition has been signed by Alex Aster and features a simple but beautiful sprayed edge with the Empire State Building and an apple love heart.

The Works Exclusive of Summer in the City (UK)
The Works have really upped their game when it comes to new releases, trending books and special editions. They’re often a more affordable alternative for exclusive editions of books, and they also offer a lot of sprayed edge paperbacks, which isn’t something you see a lot of in the UK.
That being said, they have gone down a slightly different route for their special edition of Summer in the City. There are no sprayed edges with this one, but it’s a completely unique colourway for the dustjacket, and the case is red underneath with a gold taxi foil design.

Summer in the City Deluxe Edition (UK and America)
Limited to the first print run, this deluxe edition of Summer in the City features a New York skyline sprayed edge, a pink NYC map and a pink case with a red foiled cupid.
In America, this version is widely available from most retailers. However, in the UK, the only place I have seen to order it from is Blackwells.

Target Exclusive of Summer in the City (America)
Slightly stepping away from the pinks and reds, Target’s special edition of Summer in the City had purple sprayed edges with hearts and diamonds, the case is matching purple with red love heart foiled sunglasses and the map is purple and pink. The map also has a Target store in it.

Walmart Exclusive of Summer in the City (America)
Going super bright with yellow is the Walmart special edition of Summer in the City, but it does complement the pink very well. The sprayed edges are yellow with NYC icons, the case is also yellow with a pink foiled coffee cup. The map is pink and features a Walmart shopping bag with the Walmart exclusive edition of the book inside it.

Barnes & Noble Exclusive of Summer in the City (America)
The Barnes & Noble special edition of Summer in the City has red sprayed edges with yellow cabs. The case is red with a pink foil heart and the map is also pink and features the biggest Barnes & Noble store in the world in it.
The signed version of this is sold out online but there is still a non-signed version available.
