December is pretty much here which means it’s time to get stuck into the Christmas TBR!
Come December my reading changes exclusively to Christmas and winter-themed books. I am a huge lover of Christmas and there’s nothing better than cosying up under a blanket with the glow of the Christmas tree lights and a good festive book. Although December is a busy month, I’d like to be able to tick all 6 of these books off my list. So if you’re looking for some Christmas TBR inspiration then here are the 6 books I’m hoping to read this festive season!
The Christmas Tree Farm
If you’ve read my book reviews for The Pumpkin Spice Cafe and The Cinnamon Bun Book Store then it will come as no surprise that this book is on my TBR. I just love the Dream Harbor series so much!
I think this is the book that I am most excited about this year. I’ve had so much fun reading the first two books. This one is a non-negotiable for me, I will find time to read it no matter what!
Synopsis: Kira North has bought a Christmas tree farm in one of the most charming small towns around. The problem is she hates Christmas. As she attempts to get the farm up and running she panics that she doesn’t have the most social media-worthy set up. The farm is cold and probably a little bit dangerous.
Bennet Ellis has come to Dream Harbor to visit his sister, take a break from his Californian lifestyle and most importantly get away from the disastrous dates he always finds himself on. After an argument with Kira, Bennett can’t understand how someone so grumpy could possibly run a Christmas tree farm. Especially as she has no idea what she’s doing.
When Bennett finds himself at the farm once again Kira realises that asking for help may not be so bad. Particularly when Ben looks so good swinging an axe.
Look Up, Handsome
As soon as I saw this book it immediately got added to my Christmas TBR. It just sounds super cute!
It’s a male/male romance set in Hay-on-Wye. The town happens to be well known for its books thanks to the fact that there are over 20 bookshops there!
Synopsis: Quinn Oxford owns the only queer bookshop in Hye-on-Wye. It’s always busy but somehow it’s threatened with closure. Quinn will do whatever it takes to save his shop but he soon finds himself distracted when Noah Sage comes to town.
Noah is an author who is less than happy to find himself back in Hay. He has a history with the town that he’d rather forget about but heavy snowfall traps him there. But Hay is a small town and Quinn and Noah seem to bump into each other wherever they go.
Quinn is hoping for a Christmas miracle. One that will save his shop and give him a real-life romance. But Noah will need to change his mind about Hay if he and Quinn even stand a chance of getting close.
The Comfort Food Cafe
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but the author Debbie Johnson has a series of books about the Comfort Food Cafe. However, I believe that this new book is a standalone novel. It has some characters from the series but you don’t need to have read the other books. Either way, it sounds fun and festive so it’s on the TBR.
I feel like this one is going to be like a big, comforting hug so I can’t wait to get stuck in!
Synopsis: Maxine Connolly hasn’t had the best year. She’s lost her mum, her marriage has fallen apart and she can’t seem to hold down a job. It’s no surprise that she hasn’t been coping. However, when her teenage daughter, Sophie, applies for a job at the Comfort Food Cafe on behalf of her mum, Max realises just how bad things have gotten.
Max finds herself surprised to get a job offer and decides to embrace the opportunity for a fresh start. Even when a storm rips apart the cosy cottage that was supposed to be her new home Max finds that the warm welcome from the people of Budbury and the hospitality from the handsome recluse, Gabriel Moran, gives her enough hope to think that things might just work out.
The Ice Children
I like to have one or two childrens books on my Christmas TBR usually. They’re a nice little break from the heavier reads of the year and the best way to relax and not use too much brain power over the festive period.
This years selection drew me in with the cover. Although it seems to be more of a wintery than a Christmas themed book I still feel like it has a place on my Christmas TBR.
Synopsis: On the first day of December a young boy is found frozen on a pedastal of ice in the park. Finn Albedo is only five years old and the news hits his family heard. However, Finn’s heart is still beating, the problem is no one can wake him up.
Finn’s big sister, Bianca, takes it upon herself to get to the bottom of what has happened but as more children turn up frozen, Bianca senses she doesn’t have long to discover the truth and save the children before they’re lost forever. She finds herself catapulted in a magical winter wonderland with a reindeer as her guide. But not all is as it seems.
The Cat of Yule Cottage
Erm, cats and Christmas? Count me in! This book is a few years old now but I only learned of it this year and it went straight on my Kindle. It sounds like the most perfect, magical book for this time of year and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
Bonus points for this book only been just over 200 pages long too becasue we all know how busy December is so shorter books are very much appreciated!
Synopsis: Jessamine Pike moves into Enysyule, an ancient cottage in Cornwall and she’s praying it will provide the fresh start that she needs.
Her plan is simple, renovate the run-down cottage by day and finish her novel by night. She’s determined to have both down by Christmas. But Jess isn’t alone, there’s a beautiful but arrongant tomcat that walks around the cottage as though it’s his and he’s reluctantly letting Jess stay.
As she learns about local legends she quickly realises there is something magical abut Enysyule and she becomes wrapped up in its past and the fight for its future. It’s a story that has been raging for hundreds of years, one about love and friendship, land, Chrismtas and a very unique cat.
A Christmas Carol
This book is on my Christmas TBR every single year without fail. I’ve read A Chrismtas Carol every year since 2010 and it still remains one of my favourite books of all time.
Nothing will ever come close to this classic novel when it comes to Christmas books and even though I pretty much know it word for word now I still can’t wait to read it again this year.
Synopsis: Ebenezer Scrooge is a bitter man with only one love in the world. Money. He has no time for compassion, feelings or family fearing that they will all stand in the way of him earning more money and Ebenezer fears being poor.
But one Christmas Eve he’s offered a life-line, a chance at redemption. Be visited by three ghosts and learn from their lessons or be condemned to wonder Earth for all eternity while weighed down by chains.
The Ghost of Christmas past shows Scrooge a time where he wasn’t so mean-spirited but also a time where his obession with money began. The Ghost of Christmas Present shows him a home with no money but all the love in the world. And the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge what will happen when he dies.
Having learned his lesson from the ghost, Ebenezer begs for forgiveness and the opportunity to honour Christmas for the rest of his life.
